It is twenty years today since Mrs Thatcher resigned. It was one of those 'where were you when President Kennedy was shot' moments. For myself I was driving down the M4 motorway and nearly crashed. I hadn't realised the Conservative Party could be so stupid as to ditch a winner, or so nasty. As Charles Moore said, if she was failing she should have been allowed to fail at the ballot box.
Within two years John Major's pro-European policies had brought Britain to its knees. We had to leave the Exchange Rate Mechanism, the pound collapsed and interest rates went through the ceiling. Since then we have had five lame duck years of John Major, the duplicitousness of Tony Blair, the insane spending spree of Gordon Brown and the cheating David Cameron accepting your vote and changing his policies afterwards.
What a crew!

Thatcher: the tiresome truth
John McDonnell, who is standing for the leadership of the Labour Party, and has already garnered the support of 10 MPs, has said that if he returned to the 1980s he would assassinate Margaret Thatcher.
Nick Clegg, Deputy Prime Minister, has said that there will be no Margaret Thatcher style cuts under this coalition.
I rather think both of these characters have returned to the 1980s. As I pointed out here, there were, regrettably for these two, no cuts. None. Spending went up year after year after year. It always has done.
It won't now, Mr Clegg, and it wouldn't have done either, Mr McDonell, if Labour had got in. The money, to quote another leftie idiot, has all gone.

Spending Cuts
The Chancellor, Mr Darling, has 'admitted' that expenditure cuts will be more savage than those made by Mrs Thatcher. Cue lefty outrage.

Mrs Thatcher
I didn't feel I could add much to the 30th anniversary tributes paid to Mrs Thatcher so I'll just say today, 4th May, is the 30th anniversary of the worst hangover I ever had.
